Margaret Jones is a barrister based in the ACT who has practised exclusively in criminal law since 1991 after being admitted to practice in NSW in 1988. She spent the 1990s at the NSW Legal Aid Commission appearing in the Local and District Court, and from 1999 until 2019 at the ACT DPP. She was the ACT Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions from 2014 until 2019. Margaret has been a barrister (government practice) since 2008 and at the private bar since 2019.
Margaret has extensive experience appearing in trials in the ACT Supreme Court and appeals in the ACT Court of Appeal in a wide range of criminal matters including the most serious offences. She has appeared in numerous criminal trials including murder, sexual assault and fraud trials. She has appeared in over 60 appellate hearings in the ACT Court of Appeal and has been led in a number of High Court matters. Her practice at the private bar extends to NSW.
She is available to appear in courts throughout NSW as well as the ACT.
Margaret is a member of the NSW Legal Aid Commission criminal barrister panel.
